Camp Site

4 Camp-SiteHow’s this for a camp site…

As part of a 7 day trek though the Andes on route to Machu Piccu, we hiked through Mt Salkantay via it’s highest pass which reaches 4900m above sea level. The mountain itself reaches 6270m and the name “Salkantay” roughly translates to “Wild” a fitting name considering it has never been climbed to the summit and likely never will, it’s just too dangerous. As we approached, the snow began to fall, the wind picked up and the clouds began to roll in. Our porters set up camp and just moments later the snow really started to fall. Before long a silky white blanket lay over everything in sight and we were set for one of the coldest nights I’ve experienced. Snow, bone shattering wind and -15 degrees Celsius in a tent.
