Perfect Storm

12 Perfect-StormShooting lightning can be one of the most frustrating forms of photography, but for this very reason, the most rewarding. Patience, perseverance and a side dish of luck, all play a huge role in getting the image you see in your head.

One night back in 2005, I was visiting my parents in Qld and was blessed with the perfect storm. It was a beautiful day of around 35 degrees and as I sat on the balcony, relaxing and sipping a cold beer with Dad, a storm was making it’s way up the coast. When the storm finally hit, the temperature dropped instantly. Wind lashed the trees and lightning crashed… and again… and again, but strangely, barely a drop of rain fell.

I took up position and waited…
